Class 2 Heavy Vehicle Licence Training

Our Class 2 Medium Rigid Heavy Vehicle course is a comprehensive one and a half day programme designed to prepare drivers for their full Class 2 licence assessment. The course combines theory, practical training, and NZQA unit standards to ensure you are road-ready and compliant.

What Can You Drive with a Full Class 2 Licence?

• A rigid vehicle (including any tractor) with a Gross Laden Weight (GLW) of more than 6,000kg but not more than 18,000kg.
• A combination vehicle (not a tractor/trailer combination) with a GLW not exceeding 12,000kg.
• An agricultural motor vehicle running on wheels with a GLW between 6,000kg and 18,000kg (if driven at speeds not exceeding 40km/h), with or without a Wheels endorsement.
• A rigid vehicle with two axles or less.

Entry Requirements

• Hold a valid and current New Zealand Class 2 Learner Licence.
• Have held a Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence for at least 6 months.
• Complete the supplied pre-course learning material.
• Provide evidence of practical driver training prior to assessment.

Course Content

• Unit Standard 24089: Fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook.
• Unit Standard 15158: Carry out pre-start checks, prepare vehicle for use, and shut it down safely.
• Unit Standard 17574: Theory training and assessment.
• 2 hours of pre-licensing practical driving and coaching.
• Full Class 2 practical driving assessment.
• Feedback and acknowledgement of assessment results.
• Optional re-assessment (additional cost applies if required).
